My name is Tanya, fibre artist, holistic healthcare advocate, mother, surfer, adventurer, nature lover and truth seeker, and the face behind the hat hangers stocked at Raven Place.

The maker behind Ash & Elm
In Norse mythology, it is believed that the first two humans were made from two sticks from the Ash+Elm tree.

Much like this business, Ash+Elm gave me new life after the 2022 floods that hit our region.
​
My daughter's preschool went underwater, and I was left without work for three months. From here, Ash+Elm came to life, like a lotus flower born from the mud.
​
It began to blossom and bring much-needed income during that time.
​
It is a love story, and the beginning of life for this little business.
MADE BY NATURE
The materials and philosophy
I create intuitively, making large wall hangings and products suited to the coastal designs prevalent to our local beach towns.

Without the driftwood, there is no foundation for the life of these creations.
​
Staying true to my own values, I began to source locally and choose to work with businesses that share a strong sustainable and ethical backbone.
Every piece of driftwood, every fibre and every material that finds its way into an Ash+Elm creation is chosen with intention.
